Confidentiality & Privacy Statement
The law protects the relationship between a client and a therapist, and information cannot be disclosed without written permission.
Exceptions:
- If the counsellor suspects child abuse or dependent adult or elder abuse, he or she is required by law to report this to the appropriate authorities immediately.
- If a client is threatening serious bodily harm to another person, the counsellor must notify the police and inform the intended victim.
- If a client intends to harm himself/herself, the counsellor will make every effort to enlist his/her cooperation in ensuring the client's safety. If the client does not cooperate, the counsellor will take further measures without his/her permission that are provided to the counsellor by law in order to ensure the client's safety.
